What are types of accommodation are available?

You can stay in host families, youth hostels, hotels and bed and breakfasts. Your overnight accommodation can be based on room-only, bed and breakfast, half board (breakfast and lunch) or full board (breakfast, lunch and dinner). Need more information? Then please get in touch!

Are we supposed to bring gifts for the host families?

It is not obligatory to bring a gift for the host families. Of course, it is much appreciated. The best thing to do is to bring something typically Dutch, like ‘Stroopwafels’ (treacle waffles).

How many pupils share a room?

In the host families, there is a minimum of two sharing and a maximum of 4. Youth hostels normally have rooms catering for between 4 and 10 pupils. We will of course bear the wishes and preferences of the school in mind.

Are pupils allowed out in the evenings?

This is only permitted if the school grants permission. If the school wants the pupils to remain at home, then this will be communicated with the host families.

How do the pupils make their way to the coach from the host families?

In Hastings and Bexhill, the pupils walk the short distance to the pick-up point nearby the host family. The coach then drives along each of the pick-up points to collect the group. At all other destinations, the host families bring the pupils to a central pick-up point. Here, the pupils wait for the coach to arrive.

Which meals do the pupils get in the host families?

The stay in a host family is full board. Breakfast, a packed lunch and dinner are provided daily for the pupils. On the days that the pupils have a full day’s set of activities and don’t eat with the host families, they are given a so-called ‘double’ packed lunch.

What kind of host families are provided by your company?

The host families are generally a cross-section of the population. The stay is a source of income for the host families. Some host families offer a homely experience, whilst others are more business-like. We are unable to influence this as a travel company. Our local representatives however, carefully select all host families. The pupils are questioned about their experience during and after the trip. In this way, we can guarantee the quality of the homestay.

I have an allergy/phobia/special dietary requirements. What can be done about it?

On the participants list, allergies, phobias and dietary requirements can be indicated. During the matching of pupils with their host families, we will endeavour to honour the requests.

What kind of baggage should I bring?

Senlac Tours advises against suitcases with a hard shell, due to the limited amount of space in the coach. Before departure, the school receives baggage labels from us for each person travelling.

What should I bring with me on the trip?

This is different for everybody. There are indeed a number of important things, which are handy to take with you. Enquire about our baggage checklist.
