Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum

Pier 86, W 46th St | New York, NY 10036, United States

The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space museum is a museum aboard the USS Intrepid. In addition to the large aircraft carrier, there are also a number of historic ships on display. The collection of the museum shows the space shuttle enterprise, the USS growler submarine, the lockheed A-12 and the concorde. The concorde on display set a world speed record for passenger aircraft in 1996. The museum was opened in 1982 aboard the aircraft carrier that was rescued from scrap heap in 1978. In 2001 the museum was a temporary base of FBI from which the investigation was conducted after the attack on 11 September. The intrepid was once dragged to another location on Hudson and then got stuck for a while when its propelle hits the bottom.
