Eastbourne

The sunniest place of the UK

Eastbourne is a charming sea village in Sussex. Sea, sand, beach with well kept Victorian houses and hotels on the boulevard. At night you're welcomed by a coastline decorated with small little lamps on this boulevard. Eastbourne has spectaculair seesights, a couple of museums end a beautiful pier. This pier since 1865 is just renovated into one of the most favorite hot-spots of Eastbourne. Every half an hour a train leaves Victoria Station London for Eastbourne, because Eastbourne is the sunniest place in the United Kingdom(no kidding!). A lot of London people lay on the Eastbourne beach. On the beach you have a couple of nice beachpavilions with terrasses where you can hire kajaks en surfboards. If you take a walk over the Grand Parade boulevard, you will reach the chalk-cliff at the boarder of Eastbourne. If the water is low, a guide will walk you through the water past the cliff. Beachy Head is just 6 kilometres from the centre of Eastbourne.

A mixture of rough nature and rich shoppingfacilities makes Eastbourne a big favorite of school pupils. There are many cultural and sportive activities to attent and there is even an "Eastbourne Bandstand" where the latest bands perform in open-air.

If you don't need beach, sand and spectaculair views all the time... London is only one and a half hour away and in less then half an hour you're from Eastbourne to Brighton.

Tip

The pier of Eastbourne is decorated with golden lion heads. This exotic appearance is due to it's owner; the flamboyant hotelier Sheikh Abid Gulzari. If you're lucky you meet him on his Pier and he will be happy to show you around.
